Every craft has a handful of decisions that carry most of the weight. Editing is no different: a few choices about rhythm, silence and framing decide whether a clip lands.
Where the weight sits
Most of the perceived quality of a video comes from a small number of decisions, and almost none of them are effects. They are about what you leave out.
- Cut on motion, not on the word.
- Let the first frame answer "why am I watching this".
- Trust one idea per sequence.
“The edit is where the film is actually written.”
